Skoda Slavia
The grown-up sedan that genuinely drives
Skoda Slavia review
The Skoda Slavia is the brand's mid-size sedan for India, built on the locally developed MQB-A0-IN platform alongside the Volkswagen Virtus. It pairs European driving manners with sensible packaging: a large boot, generous cabin space and a choice of two turbo-petrol engines. Pitched at buyers who still prefer a three-box sedan over an SUV, the Slavia leans on solid build, sharp dynamics and a strong safety reputation rather than gimmicks.
On the road the Slavia is where it earns its keep. The 1.0 TSI three-cylinder is the volume engine, smooth enough for daily use and willing once the turbo spools, while the 1.5 TSI brings genuinely quick performance and a cylinder-deactivation trick for better efficiency on the highway. Steering is precise and the suspension strikes a mature balance, soaking up broken roads without feeling floaty at speed. It simply feels more planted and confident than most rivals in this class.
Inside, the cabin is well laid out and airy, with a 10-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats on higher trims, a sunroof and wireless connectivity. Rear legroom and the 521-litre boot are class highlights, making it a practical family car. Material quality is generally good, though a few hard plastics and some piano-black trim that scratches easily remind you of cost-cutting in places.
Safety is a strong suit: six airbags are standard across the range, ESC is included, and the model carries a strong crash-test pedigree shared with its VW twin. The flip side is Skoda's historically patchy service network and higher running costs than mass-market Japanese and Korean rivals, plus a slightly firmer low-speed ride on the larger wheels.
Feature availability is sensible rather than overflowing — you get the essentials done well, but some buyers will miss a 360-degree camera, a fully digital experience on lower trims, and a diesel or strong-hybrid option that competitors offer. The DSG automatic is slick but commands a meaningful premium.

Drives better than anything I tested
I cross-shopped the City and Verna and the Slavia just felt more solid and fun on the highway. The 1.0 TSI has enough pep for the city and mileage is decent if you drive sensibly. Only gripe is the service cost at the first major visit.
Spacious and safe family sedan
Bought it mainly for the six airbags and the big boot, and both have delivered. Rear seat is comfortable for my parents on long trips. The piano-black trim picks up scratches and the touchscreen lags occasionally, but overall I'm happy.
The DSG makes it a joy
Went for the 1.5 DSG and the performance genuinely surprises people. Cylinder deactivation helps on the highway runs to the office. Just keep in mind parts and service are not as cheap as a Maruti, so factor that in.

Skoda Slavia — frequently asked questions
Is the Skoda Slavia available with a diesel engine?
No. The Slavia is offered only with turbo-petrol engines — a 1.0 TSI and a 1.5 TSI. There is no diesel or hybrid option.
Which Slavia variant offers the best value?
The mid-spec Ambition and Style 1.0 TSI trims hit the sweet spot, bundling the key safety, comfort and connectivity features without the steep premium of the top 1.5 DSG variants.
How many airbags does the Slavia have?
Six airbags are standard across the entire range, along with ESC, making it one of the safer choices in the segment by default.
What is the real-world mileage of the Slavia?
Expect roughly 14-16 kmpl in city driving and 18-20 kmpl on highways for the 1.0 TSI, with the 1.5 TSI faring similarly thanks to cylinder deactivation.
How big is the boot space?
At 521 litres, the Slavia has one of the largest boots in its class, easily swallowing multiple large suitcases for family trips.
Is Skoda's service network and cost a concern?
Skoda has expanded its network and offers service-cost packages, but running and maintenance costs are still typically higher than mass-market Japanese and Korean rivals, so budget accordingly.
